SugarBun signs partnership with Sedaplycious to expand into West Malaysia, overseas markets

Hi Everyone,

East Malaysia’s iconic quick-service restaurant brand SugarBun Corporation Berhad (SugarBun) has signed a regional partnership with Sedaplycious Sdn Bhd (Sedaplycious) to expand deeper into West Malaysia. The agreement marks a major milestone for the home-grown brand as it builds a national presence and sets its sights on international growth.

Borneo Oil Berhad (BornOil) managing director Datuk Joseph Ambrose Lee said the partnership is set to strengthen SugarBun’s footprint beyond its stronghold in Sabah and Sarawak, creating a truly national presence while laying the foundation for global opportunities. Bursa-listed BornOil is the holding company for SugarBun.

“SugarBun will bring our signature Broasted Chicken, Savoury Rice and other East Malaysian favourites to new communities across the peninsula, while creating jobs, empowering local suppliers and opening franchise opportunities for entrepreneurs,” he said.

“This partnership represents a defining moment in SugarBun’s journey. West Malaysia is a natural growth market with three times the population of East Malaysia. With Sedaplycious as our partner, we can expand the brand’s reach, strengthen our supply chain and build a stronger platform for international growth.”

The Regional Area Development Agreement was formalised today by SugarBun subsidiary, SB Supplies & Logistics Sdn Bhd, to appoint Sedaplycious as its appointed master franchise partner.

It was witnessed by Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Ewon Benedick and Pernas CEO Datuk Nor Azam bin M. Taib.

Ewon said the partnership demonstrated how home-grown brands could scale across regions while staying true to their heritage.

“SugarBun is a proud East Malaysian success story and today’s ceremony reflects the strength of our local enterprises in reaching wider markets. Expansion into West Malaysia will not only create new jobs but also showcase the diversity of East Malaysian culture through our rich culinary heritage,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sedaplycious founder Sean Leong said the collaboration was as much about passion as it was about business.

“I have always loved SugarBun’s juicy Broasted Chicken and Savoury Rice. At Sedaplycious, we are committed to expanding the SugarBun brand because I know West Malaysians will love it too. This agreement is not only a business venture but also a mission to create jobs, empower local suppliers and bring Borneo’s unique flavours to more communities.”

Founded in Sarawak over 40 years ago, SugarBun has grown from humble beginnings into one of East Malaysia’s most recognisable restaurant brands. It currently has more than 104 outlets predominantly in Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei.

The introduction of the SugarBun Express model has also lowered the barrier for entrepreneurs to enter the franchise.

“Our compact SugarBun Express model makes it easier for aspiring business owners to join the franchise and allows us to bring quality dining experiences even to smaller towns and outskirt areas where food options are limited,” said Joseph.

The ceremony also featured the launch of Sabacco’s newest creation, the Tuhau Wild Ginger Chilli Sauce. Rooted in the Kadazan-Dusun heritage of Sabah, the sauce is celebrated for its bold, tangy flavour that reflects the biodiversity of Borneo.

About SugarBun

Founded in Sarawak in 1979, SugarBun is a proudly home-grown, Halal-certified quick service restaurant brand with more than 90 outlets across Malaysia, Brunei and international markets. Known for its Sarawak pepper–infused Broasted Chicken, Savoury Rice, Fish Burger and house-made pickles, SugarBun continues to delight customers with its Bornean heritage and commitment to quality.

Element Kuala Lumpur Celebrates Culinary Excellence with “A Culinary Celebration” 3-Course Menu

Hello Everyone,

In conjunction with International Chefs Day, Element by Westin Kuala Lumpur proudly presents “A Culinary Celebration”, a special 3-course menu at its sky-high dining destination, TRACE Restaurant & Bar. This limited-time offering pays tribute to the hotel’s talented culinary team for their remarkable achievements at Culinaire Malaysia 2025, one of the region’s most prestigious culinary competitions.

Available from October 11 to November 9, 2025, every Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM, the menu invites diners to indulge in an exquisite dining experience set against breathtaking city views on Level 40 of Element Kuala Lumpur.

The three main course selections in this special menu are the award-winning creations that impressed the judges at Culinaire Malaysia 2025 — the Bulgogi Glazed Beef Loin with Spinach-Infused Mousse by Chef de Partie Eirfan Mifzhal (Silver Medal), the Pan-Seared Salmon with Layered Saffron Potato by Commis Anisa Samson (Bronze Medal), and the Smoked Glazed Duck à la Pistachio by Commis Danish Aqasha (Certificate of Diploma). Each dish was conceptualized by these young chefs and refined under the mentorship of Element Kuala Lumpur’s senior culinary team.

“A Culinary Celebration” experience begins with a Crustacean Bisque Soup, a velvety blend of lobster, prawn, crab, and fish broth, served with a freshly baked bread roll and butter.

For the main course, diners may choose from three exquisite options:

The Bulgogi Glazed Beef Loin with Spinach-Infused Mousse, is inspired by the classic Beef Wellington, reimagined with a creative twist. Instead of puff pastry, the chef replaces it with a delicate beef mousse wrapped in spinach mousse, creating a rich yet balanced texture. The dish is beautifully complemented by a layered pistachio potato trio, offering both visual artistry and refined flavor.

The Pan-Seared Salmon with Layered Saffron Potato features sustainably sourced salmon topped with to a golden layer of saffron potato. It is served with a homemade black Parmesan tart, naturally colored with squid ink and filled with lobster mousse, creating a striking and flavorful combination.

The Smoked Glazed Duck à la Pistachio highlights locally sourced Bidor duck from Perak, a town known for its quality poultry, presented in a refined modern style. The tender duck breast is paired with freshly glazed berries, adding a touch of natural sweetness that enhances the dish’s smoky and nutty notes.

The meal concludes on a sweet note with the Ferrero Brûlée Entremets, accompanied by fresh berries, vanilla crumble, and salted caramel gelato — a delightful finale to this elevated dining experience.

Element Kuala Lumpur General Manager Mandy Ooi expressed her pride and appreciation for the team’s accomplishments, saying, “Our young chefs have made us immensely proud with their talent and passion. This special menu is our way of letting them shine while also expressing our gratitude to the culinary management team for their invaluable guidance.”

Hi Semua,

Republic Mokhmah Records membuka pentas penganjuran daripada syarikatnya di tahun 2026 dengan sebuah kolaborasi pemuzik terbaik yang pernah dan masih relevan dalam belantika muzik tempatan.

Kristal X and Azlan & The Typewriter.

Rockolusi Kuasa Dua Kristal X and Azlan & The Typewriter bukan sekadar konsert tapi saksi nyata betapa industri muzik tempatan memiliki banyak pemuzik yang masih relevan, perlu diberi peluang dan terus disokong.

Selamat melakar sejarah bersama Kristal X and Azlan & The Typewriter di ZEPP Kuala Lumpur pada 1 Februari 2026 ini.

HOMESOY Launches ‘Stop That Dot Together’ to Continue Driving Breast Cancer Awareness=

Hi Everyone,

This October, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, HOMESOY continues its commitment to women’s health with ‘Stop That Dot Together’, the sequel to last year’s highly successful campaign, which empowered 11,000 women to undergo screenings.

Building on last year’s success, ‘Stop That Dot Together’ takes a fresh approach by tackling the fear and stigma around screenings, reframing them as acts of care shared with loved ones. The campaign strengthens HOMESOY mission of nourishing women’s health through both early detection advocacy and everyday wellness with soya milk.

HOMESOY is continuing its support for breast cancer research, pledging RM50,000 to Cancer Research Malaysia in 2025. This reflects the brand’s role as more than daily nourishment but also a long-term advocate for women’s health nationwide.

“This year, ‘Stop That Dot Together’ is about more than awareness. It is about turning screening into an act of love and care, and reminding every woman she is never alone in this journey. HOMESOY stands with women by nourishing their health every day while supporting the fight against breast cancer for the long term. We invite Malaysians to stand with us, get screened together and embrace good nutrition as the foundation for long-term wellness.” Ms Chang Wan Ping, Marketing Director, Ace Canning Corporation Sdn Bhd

Nutrition and Breast Health: The Role of Soya and HOMESOY

Nutrition is a key pillar of prevention and recovery. Research shows that Asian women, who consume soy-rich diets up to 10 times more than Caucasian women, have historically lower breast cancer incidence rates. [1]

Soya isoflavones – plant-based compounds – are different from human estrogen and do not convert into human estrogen. There have been various studies evaluating the protective effect of soya products or soya isoflavone on breast cancer risk and some of these have demonstrated a protective effect.

"Soya is a powerful, plant-based food that provides a unique combination of benefits. It delivers high-quality protein for overall health, while its isoflavones, in particular, have shown a promising link to a lower risk of breast cancer in research, especially in Asian populations," said Ms Soo Sek Yow, Head of Nutrition Unit, Ace Canning Corporation Sdn Bhd.

To support women’s wellness, HOMESOY has introduced HOMESOY 3.0 soya milk, a nutritious formulation enriched with high-quality plant protein, dietary fibre, calcium and vitamin D. Naturally low in saturated fat, HOMESOY 3.0 supports healthy weight management and offers a plant-based choice linked to reduced risks of chronic diseases. It is suitable for women at all life stages, including motherhood.

“Breast cancer risk is shaped by many factors. We can’t change our genes, but we can choose healthier habits — like keeping a good weight, staying active, staying smoke-free, and getting checked.” Dr. Ang Boon Hong (Ph.D.) Post-Doctoral Scientist (Cancer Prevention and Population Sciences), Cancer Research Malaysia

Breast Cancer in Malaysia: Why It Matters

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Malaysian women, with the World Health Organization (WHO) reporting that 1 in 20 women will develop it in their lifetime. According to the Malaysia Cancer Registry 2017-2021, more than half of cases (50.5%) are detected late at Stage III or IV, limiting treatment options and survival

Yet awareness and action remain a challenge. A nationwide survey revealed that seven in ten women believe screening is only needed when symptoms appear, while many avoid checks due to fear or the clinical hospital environment[2]. Experts note that one-third of cancers are preventable through lifestyle choices, while another third can be treated effectively if detected early[3].

"Breast screening is not about fear; it's about empowerment. We want to give women the confidence to get screened, knowing that these tools are a powerful team designed for their health and well-being." said Dr Nani Harlina Binti Md Latar, Consultant Breast & Endocrine Surgeon, Sunway Medical Centre

To turn awareness into action, HOMESOY has launched the Stop That Dot Together campaign with a short video sharing survivor stories and encouraging women to go for screening. This is followed by a nationwide contest with HOMESOY’s wellness partners, where participants can win health and breast screening vouchers. To join, participants simply take a photo in pairs, post it on social media with #StopThatDotTogether, and stand a chance to win screening vouchers along with a 946ml pack of HOMESOY 3.0.

In addition, women who undergo screening at participating hospitals, including Sunway Medical Centre, Columbia Asia Hospital, Subang Jaya Medical Centre, KPJ, Thomson Hospital, Prince Court Medical Centre, Hospital Picaso and Hospital Lam Wah Ee — will receive a complimentary 946ml pack of HOMESOY 3.0. Full details are available on the brand’s website.

Survivor Story: The Power of Support

A key highlight of the launch event was the inspiring sharing by breast cancer survivor Noor Shareena Aleeya Saiful Adli (Sheena), who was diagnosed with Stage 1 at just 35 years old. With no family history of the disease and a young daughter to care for, the diagnosis was devastating but today Sheena is using her story to encourage others to act early.

As a walking testimony of the importance of screening, Sheena is now motivating the people she loves, including her close friend Mashita, to go for early detection. Her story, featured in the Stop That Dot Together short campaign video, embodies the movement’s message that breast cancer is not a battle faced alone, but one where we bring our families and friends to stand together.

“I encourage all women to get screened, like how my dear friend Mashita went for screening too. Early detection saves lives, and Stop That Dot Together is a powerful reminder that we are stronger when we take this step together.” Noor Shareena Aleeya Saiful Adli (Sheena), breast cancer survivor
