Hi Korang,
Some info for Earth Hour 2012.
YTL Corporation Berhad has traditionally celebrated Earth Hour every year since Malaysia’s first Earth Hour in 2009. This year, the company will yet again be inviting the public to share in its Earth Hour celebrations on the Rooftop of Lot 10, KL, from 8:30pm to 10pm on Saturday, 31 March 2012. YTL Corporation Berhad, the initiator for Earth Hour support along the Bukit Bintang district and widely recognized for its long standing commitment to sustainability and environmental activities, will be reinforcing the global collaborative message of hope and action against climate change this year in line with the Earth Hour theme “I Will If You Will”.
This year, the company is upping its commitment of the Earth Hour initiative at Lot 10, KL, treating the public to a mini open air concert under the stars, featuring a spectacular fire show, local artists Diandra Arjunaidi and Bo Amir Iqram, instrumental performances by the Tugu Drum Circle and even a mini petting zoo for animal lovers. Special Earth Hour merchandise will also be available at booths set up by The National Geographic Store, KL. To top it all off, guests can indulge in an eco-dining experience with special menus at Teeq Brasserie, participating in the celebration overlooking the gorgeous KL skyline.
The event at Lot 10, in collaboration with Bukit Bintang, will be graced by Joseph Yeoh, Vice President of YTL Hotels & Resorts and YTL Land, and Ralph Dixon, Director of Environmental Investments at YTL Corporation Berhad.
YTL Corporation Berhad will cut 1398kg* of carbon emissions across 15 properties in Malaysia and Singapore for their 90 minute Earth Hour initiative, through the shutting down of non essential lights. This amount is equivalent to almost 8,290 hours or 1,040 working days of computer usage.
Ruth Yeoh, YTL Corporation Berhad’s Director of Investments who leads the Sustainability Division at YTWL states, “We are committed in our support towards Earth Hour as it represents YTL Corporation’s sustainability journey and responsibility in striving to make better choices for future generations”. She further emphasized, “We firmly believe in doing our part to make the world a better and safer place to live in. However, change can only take place when individuals unite to bring about awareness. We hope we can encourage people to join us in our Earth Hour celebrations and activities globally.”
At Starhill Gallery, Malaysia’s renowned youth environmental group, ”The Trees Theatre Group”, will be performing an environmental-themed play, followed by a “wayang kulit” (shadow-puppetry) performance. Shoppers can participate in the lighting up of a specially created Earth Hour logo at Feast Village, where food enthusiasts can also experience eco-dining through Earth Hour menus available in the evening at Shook!, Starhill Gallery’s Asian and European showcase restaurant.
Guests at YTL Hotels including Tanjong Jara Resort, The Vistana Kuala Lumpur, The Majestic Malacca and Spa Village Resort Tembok, Bali, will also get a chance to share Earth Hour through candlelit dinners with specially created Earth Hour themed menus, while being serenaded by live music.
“Our customers and guests are one of our top priorities and we want to celebrate Earth Hour with them and our wider stakeholders by having a line-up of interesting events and activities so that 31 March 2012 will mark a special day for all to participate in and remember,” stated Ruth Yeoh.
The unmistakably Malay Tanjong Jara Resort will be offering guests live entertainment in candlelight by manipulating the light and shadows with a “wayang kulit” performance. Low Carbon Footprint mocktails will be served throughout Earth Hour to add to the experience.
At Vistana Kuala Lumpur, complimentary low-energy snacks will be served while walkways and common areas will be lined with atmospheric tea lights to lead guests to their candlelit dinner at the Coffee House.
The Majestic Malacca will also be lining their walkways and common areas with tea lights while guests enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner at The Mansion with an accompanying performance by a talented local pianist.
A natural ambiance will be created for guests at Spa Village Resort Tembok, Bali to capture the essence of Earth Hour with their poolside lined with candles, out under the stars and by the beach. To mark the occasion, guests will be treated to a live Gamelan performance while they enjoy a barbeque dinner.
YTL Corporation’s Earth Hour activities will also extend into Singapore with their subsidiaries, Starhill Global REIT and PowerSeraya, whom will also encourage the public to pledge for Earth Hour through lights-off initiatives in Wisma Atria and an eco-carnival with a live concert, including the first ever 60+ human formation during the nationwide Earth Hour countdown at Ngee Ann City’s Civic Plaza on Orchard Road.
Earth Hour will also be shared with guests at YTL Hotels worldwide including the JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur, The Ritz Carlton Kuala Lumpur, Pangkor Laut Resort, Cameron Highlands Resort, The Green Leaf Niseko Village and Hilton Niseko Village in Japan, and The Surin in Phuket.
